Homeward Bound for The All-Star Game

Saturday, July 07, 2007 Concept/Objective:

Assignment Construct: It was nice to be headed home to the SF bay area to capture the all-star game in San Francisco. The last time I came home around something baseball centric, it was 1989 and it was for the earthquake when the world series was happening. This time, I just needed to document a client’s participation in the game, as they were a high profile sponsor of some of the events.

Cookies & Cream?

Monday, July 02, 2007 Concept/Objective:

Assignment ConstructThe client was launching a new snack food, and they wanted to get people’s attention, so they made a 20+ foot mockup of the snack food, and brought it to Washington DC to get people to try it. While we were making images of the average joe and jane enjoying it, the company was also celebrating it’s 95th anniversary, so there was a candle-lighting ceremony as well. Lastly, they were filming video for a VNR that was going out as well.

3 Minutes and counting

Thursday, January 25, 2007 Concept/Objective:

Assignment ConstructSo, this is the anatomy of an assignment. Specifically, it’s about how it came together, and was executed, and how, when you’re a professional, with the right tools, you can make it happen, despite countless challenges. On January 16, the phone rang. It was the Art Director for a publication group that was handling a regional publication that wanted a portrait of a Member of Congress. The interview was schedule for January 24th, and the Communications Director also wanted the photography to take place that day. We discussed the details—small circulation regional trade magazine, cover and single image inside. When asked about their budget, their figures were slightly lower than where I felt comfortable being, by about 20%. A negotiation ensued, and the result raised the figure to 10% less than I had originally proposed, and I forwarded on a contract to that effect, which was signed and returned prior to the shoot taking place.Assignment Construct

We’re Not Really Here

Wednesday, January 24, 2007 Concept/Objective:

Assignment ConstructThe objective was to photograph a defense analyist in a classified location, the National Defense University, in their lobby. I didn’t want to overcomplicate the shot, so I used just a single light, with a missle behind her, and more importantly, the large glass walls, which was supposed to illustrate a transition of “transparency” of her work, and that of the type of work she does.
