President’s Ranch - Crawford Texas
Monday, November 12, 2007 The opportunity presented itself to cover the arrival of the German Chancellor to the Bush Ranch, and while I had a tight schedule with commitments the day before and the day after outside of Texas, this was something that had just the right timing that lent itself to being covered. Concept/Objective:
The objective was to capture a nice image of the President and German Chancellor during their visit to the Bush ranch in Crawford Texas. The Chancellor and her husband came to see the President in a much more informal setting than would be at the White House, but it was important to me that there be something that places them there. A ranch house would have been nice, so too, livestock, or something “ranch-y”. Yet, I was on hand to document what happened, so my ability to control anything was limited to my position.

While working on an assignment to cover this well known public figure’s recent book publication, and her appearance on a news radio program, the opportunity presented itself to make a nice portrait of the subject. It was my objective to do so. I took it as an opportunity to challenge myself, and my abilities to make a nice image.
The objective was to cover the client’s event, and get the sponsoring organizations’ logo into as many images as possible, since we didn’t know which image(s) would be used down the line, each needed to have it.
The objective was to cover the visit by the President to this annual gathering, prior to the annual Book Festival.
The objective here was the same as the debate for the democrats from back in June, for the same client – capture everything that’s happening front of house, and behind the scenes.
The objective was to document the first flights out of my local airport of a new airline with routes from DC back to San Francisco, where the company is based. I needed to document the check in process as well as the aircraft, and ribbon cutting ceremony.
The objective was to photograph the reception and on-stage awards presentations for this client at the Mellon Auditorium.
The objective was to cover the client’s coverage of the presidential debate in Chicago, on Solder Field. Trekking out to Chicago was not on my “to do” list this week.
The objective was to capture the client with the Secretary of Education, during a panel on teachers and teaching at a corporate retreat. On hand was one of the top golfers in the country, who was using his name and time to improve education.
The call came in to do a group portrait of 700 people on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, as well as 50 different group photos of people with the organizations’ founder.
The client was launching a new snack food, and they wanted to get people’s attention, so they made a 20+ foot mockup of the snack food, and brought it to Washington DC to get people to try it. While we were making images of the average joe and jane enjoying it, the company was also celebrating it’s 95th anniversary, so there was a candle-lighting ceremony as well. Lastly, they were filming video for a VNR that was going out as well.
The objective was to capture the coverage of the democratic presidential debate for the network hosting it. From behind the scenes to front of house, I needed to cover it all.
In an unexpected turn of events, President Ford died, and I needed to change plans to cover the ceremonies.
I was hired by the client to document all the goings-on during the interviews of the report co-chairs.
The objective was to document the display of Leonardo DaVinci’s “Adoration of the Magi” art, on display at the Library of Congress.

We were called on to document the monumental groundbreaking of the MLK Memorial. From backstage to the stage with Presidents, to the actual turning of earth.
